Remi MAUXION (Agriculture, 2018, Beauvais) has had his research work highlighted in a documentary broadcast on Arte. A specialist in butterfly metamorphosis, he has devoted his scientific career to a phenomenon that is as fascinating as it is still largely mysterious: the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies.

Among the species he studies is the spectacular morpho, one of the world's largest butterflies, famous for its metallic blue sheen. The documentary offers magnificent images of this insect and highlights Rémi's work to understand what goes on inside the chrysalis.

Currently based in Panama, Rémi works at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, a unique international laboratory entirely dedicated to metamorphosis. Scientists from all over the world share a common quest: to unravel the enigma of "super metamorphosis", a biological process of unparalleled precision in the entire animal kingdom.

Thanks to its expertise, the Alumni are contributing to a better understanding of how a simple caterpillar can become a totally different organism, endowed with wings, new organs and unprecedented behaviors. This fundamental research is paving the way for major advances in biology, evolution and perhaps even biomimicry.

The documentary is available on Arte until December 23.
